Tahir has been amazing! Changing an electric cooker switch was a small job to him but it meant the world to us as we couldn't use the cookers for days. He was kind enough to squeeze us in as his last job of the day. He was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend his services!

Oven and Stove Repair Guide

We know how frustrating a stove or oven that won’t heat properly is. Whether it’s a roast that comes out unevenly cooked or a burner that refuses to light, heating and ignition problems are among the most common complaints.

The good news is that many of these issues have identifiable causes and most can even be diagnosed and fixed by our professional team.

Our guide walks you through the most frequent heating and ignition faults, how to test for them, and when it’s time to call a Pacifica appliance repair technician.

The Most Common Culprits

Oven not heating evenly

This is one of the top complaints for both gas and electric ovens. Uneven heating often points to a faulty heating element, temperature sensor, or an igniter that isn’t reaching full temperature. Sometimes the issue is as simple as a warped oven rack or a door seal, letting heat escape mid-cycle.

Burner or ignition failures

On gas stoves, a burner that won’t light or lights with a weak flame usually traces back to a clogged burner, or a faulty igniter. On electric stoves, a burner that stays cold typically signals a broken heating coil or a bad connection.

Electrical issues

Anything involving wiring, circuit boards, or the appliance’s internal electrical components should generally be left to a Pacifica technician.

What to Check Before Calling for Help

Heating Elements

For electric ovens and stoves, a visual inspection is the first step. A healthy heating element glows a consistent, even red-orange when active. If it glows unevenly, sparks, or doesn’t glow at all, that’s a strong sign of failure.

Igniter

Gas ovens and stoves rely on igniters to open the gas valve and light the burner. A working igniter typically glows bright orange-red within 30 to 90 seconds and clicks audibly as it draws current. If the igniter glows weakly, takes far longer than usual, or doesn’t glow at all, it’s likely a common sign it needs replacement.

Power Supply

Before assuming a component has failed, rule out the basics. Confirm the appliance is fully plugged in and that the outlet is delivering power test it with another device if needed. Check the home’s circuit breaker or fuse box for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. For gas appliances, confirm the gas supply valve is fully open and that other gas appliances in the home are working normally.

Important Safety Warnings

A few precautions apply throughout any troubleshooting process:

  • Always unplug an electric appliance, or shut off the gas supply, before inspecting or testing components.
  • Never attempt to repair a gas leak yourself. If you smell gas, leave the area, avoid switches or open flames, and contact your gas provider or emergency services immediately.
  • Avoid touching heating elements, igniters, or internal wiring while the unit is powered on or recently used.
  • If troubleshooting reveals a wiring, circuit board, or gas valve issue, stop and call a Pacfica appliance repair technician on 07801 678 038.
